Indianola, IA - Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) closed on a $360,000 loan with Indianola Pediatric Dentistry (IPD) on Tuesday June 23. The funds assisted Dr. Sandra Fox to open a new 3,898 square foot pediatric dental clinic at 2001 N. 6th Street in Indianola, built by Downing Construction. Her new practice will be the closest for over 24,000 children in Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Ringgold, Decatur, Warren and Wayne counties. None of these counties currently have a pediatric dentist available. Dr. Fox will provide specialized and comprehensive dental care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. Dr. Fox also responds to emergency dental call on nights and weekends which prevents trips to local ERs; therefore, avoiding unnecessary costs and opioid prescriptions. Dr. Fox is a 2012 graduate from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and has earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) designation.

“Iowa’s communities succeed and grow by working together and supporting each other,” said CIPCO CEO Bill Cherrier. “CIPCO’s proud to support the economic growth of critical businesses throughout our service territory.”

The CIPCO loan was funded through USDA’s Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program (REDLG). This program provides zero-interest loans and grants to rural utility providers who in turn re-lend the money at zero interest to local businesses. CIPCO applied for a grant on the behalf of the project, was awarded and contributed a 20 percent match, and then loaned the entire grant and match to IPD. As the loan is paid back to CIPCO it goes into a revolving loan fund that can then be loaned for other rural projects. CIPCO has an approximately $4.5M Revolving Loan Fund. REDLG is a nationally competitive program and CIPCO’s economic development partner, Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) assists in the application process. CIPCO and their member cooperatives utilize the REDLG program as one of the economic development tools to promote community development, economic growth, and help create and retain jobs in rural Iowa.
