Reliability of System is Maintained

Select video below to learn how CIPCO completed a recent conductor replacement project.

In late 2014, CIPCO, learned that a 161kV line from Liberty to Dundee was becoming overloaded due to the addition of several wind generation turbines in the area. Because reliability on the electric grid must always be maintained at a high level, the wind turbines could not be operated at full output. In response, CIPCO reconductored (upgraded) approximately 23 miles of line in early 2016 in order to accommodate the additional generation and allow full generator output.

This 12 minute video shows a summary of how CIPCO completed this conductor replacement project. CIPCO contracted with L.E. Myers Co., to use a helicopter to expedite construction. Work was completed in just six weeks instead of eight.
